Vancouver Trolley Bus 50th Anniversary Celebration

August 16th, 1998 marked the 50th Anniversary of silent trolley bus service in the City of Vancouver. To mark this occation, the City of Vancouver, and BC Transit held a Trolley Parade and had various other festivities.

The day's festivities began at Oakridge Transit Centre, where VIPs and guests boarded the parade buses, CCF T-44 Brill 2040, CCF T-48 Brill 2416, Flyer E800 1109, and Flyer E902 2925

Here's some of the lucky guests aboard 2416 as we leave OTC.

To commemorate this day, a plaque was erected at the terminus of the first trolley route, the Cambie-Fraser. The first passengers boarded at this stop at 29th and Cambie.

Featured in this picture are veteran trolley bus operator Angus McIntyre, trolley bus operator Derek Cheung, and BC Transit CEO George Chen.

The parade made it's way to Chilco Loop at Stanley Park, where the main ceremonies took place. Here we have Clr. Alan Herbert speaking of the momentus day and a cake in honour of the occation.

Here are 2040 and 2416 in Chilco Loop, in the second picture we have TRAMS member Ken Wuschke, and trolley bus operators Angus McIntyre, Derek Cheung, and John Wollenzin.
